Questions and Answers

Below you will find answers to many common questions about DayOne 2023.

What is DayOne?

Montana Technological University (then the Montana State School of Mines) on the 11th of September 1900 with one building (Main Hall) and two degrees (Mining Engineering and Electrical Engineering). It was our DayOne. Now, over 120 years later, we boast a growing campus and offer over 60 degrees, all while maintaining the tradition of excellence, that is Montana Technological University. To celebrate our history and our growth, we are holding our sixth annual digital fundraising event kicking off at 6am Thursday, September 7th, 2023 through 11:59pm Friday September 8th, 2023. The goal of DayOne is to bring our Montana Technological University community together, to share what is happening on campus and to raise funds for our departments, programs, clubs and initiatives.

Why Is Montana Technological University having a giving event?

Montana Technological University is proud of the growth we’ve had since our DayOne. In 1900 there were two degrees offered, 39 students enrolled and one building. Now we have over 60 degrees, nearly 2,200 students annually and an ever expanding campus.  Montana Technological University's goal is to recruit, retain, prepare, educate and graduate more students. At the same time we are committed to delivering the level of education that Montana Technological University is known for, while providing an enriched student experience. DayOne, our giving event, is a chance to celebrate what Montana Technological University offers, while building momentum for the future.

Why is DayOne taking place on the 7th and 8th of September?

Montana Technological University (then the Montana State School of Mines) opened its doors on the 11th of September in 1900. We want to honor our first day and anniversary with an event that recognizes the growth and goals of our Montana Tech departments and projects. At the same time we recognize that the opening of our campus shares the date of an incredibly tragic day in our nation’s history. Please know that our intent is simply to honor the University’s history and in no way do we mean to lessen the loss felt by the events of 9/11.

This year's event will run adjacent to our anniversary on Thursday, September 7th and Friday, September 8th.

What areas can I support during DayOne?

We have done our best to include projects that represent Montana Technological University and Highlands College.  Each of the departments have identified their fundraising focus and you will be able to see each focus by clicking on the department's button on the home page during our giving event. We encourage you to view our participating departments on our main page and find your giving passion. If you don't see an area you would like to support, you can choose the OTHER option from the available projects or visit our giving page to designate your philanthropic passion.  Gifts made on our general giving page (https://foundation.mtech.edu/give) here on September 7th, 2023 and September 8th, 2023 will also count towards DayOne totals.
