Questions and Answers

Below you will find answers to many common questions about Day One 2017.

What is DAY ONE?

Montana Tech (then the Montana State School of Mines) opened its doors to our first 39 students on the 11th of September 1900 with one building (Main Hall) and two degrees (Mining Engineering and Electrical Engineering). It was our DAY ONE. Now over 100 years later we boast a growing campus and offer over 60 degrees, all while maintaining the tradition of excellence, that is Montana Tech. To celebrate our history and our growth, we are holding our first 24-hour digital fundraising event. The goal of the day is to bring our Montana Tech community together, to share what is happening on campus and to raise funds for our departments in areas they are focusing on.

Why Is Montana Tech having a giving day?

Montana Tech is proud of the growth we’ve had since our Day One. When classes started there were two degrees offered, 21 students and one building. Now we have over 60 degrees, almost 3,000 students annually and an ever expanding campus.  Montana Tech's goal is to recruit, retain, prepare, educate and graduate more students and at the same time deliver the level of education that Montana Tech is known for. Giving day is a chance to celebrate what Montana Tech offers, while building momentum for the future. Support from all those who value Montana Tech is vital.

What areas can I support during DAY ONE?

We have done our best to include all of departments that represent Montana Tech and Highlands College.  Each of the departments have identified their fundraising focus and by clicking on the department's button on the home page you see what that focus is. We encourage you to view our participating departments on our main page and find your giving passion. If you don't see a area you would like to support, you can also visit our giving page to designate your philanthropic passion.  Gifts made here will also count towards DAY ONE totals.

Can I only give online for it to be counted towards DAY ONE?

No you can contact us here at the Montana Tech Foundation 406-496-4276 and we can help you process your gift and it will still count towards Montana Tech or Highlands College Department of your choice. You can also join us on either campus from 11a-1p Tuesday the 11th of September to drop off your donation and celebrate DAY ONE in person.

I'm not available to give on the 11th of September. Can my gift still count?

Yes, make a gift using the Montana Tech Foundation giving site any time prior to the 11th of September. Just select Other for your designation and be sure to tell us in the comment box that you would like your gift to count toward DAY ONE and which Department you wish to support.
