The demand for electrical engineers continues to grow, and Montana Technological University is ready to answer the call. Electrical engineering is the largest engineering discipline in the world, serving nearly every modern industry. Harnessing electricity for the benefit of humankind is the job of electrical engineers. They design, develop, test, and supervise the manufacture of electrical equipment. The job is extremely important, and in demand since all information is conveyed using electricity as the delivery medium.
The enrollment for Montana Tech’s EE program has been flat for the past decade. The demand for the graduates has increased. Anticipated enrollment is expected to drop due to demographics. Additionally, about 50% of incoming students start at Pre-Calculus or less when enrolled.
Our graduates serve the power and controls industry in the northwestern US. In order to increase the number of recruits and retain more qualified students we have formed a plan to increase the yield of potential students and retain them through the completion of their degree. Currently we have 4.5 full-time faculty positions. Increased enrollment means increased faculty.
Currently we are bootstrapping methods to appeal to potential students. This includes faculty outreach via text, email, and packages to the potential students. Packages include shirts, hats, and other Montana Tech merchandise. To make this more personal, a custom piece of electronics is in development.
To supplement the giveaways, we want to offer students scholarship money if they enroll by a certain priority date.
When fully funded, one half of one of the new faculty positions will be used to facilitate outreach in the above ways as well as direct interaction with high school students. This will be in the form of both high school visits and high school class invitations to Montana Tech Campus.
We also want to make sure we support current students and offer them unique opportunities including meaningful senior design projects.
With all these efforts in mind, we are asking you to make a donation during DayOne to the Electrical Engineering Outreach and Recruitment Fund.
During DayOne , thanks to Nick '92 and Kari '94 Olds, each gift made to the Electrical Engineering Outreach and Recruitment Fund will be matched 1:1 up to $2,000.
Please consider making a gift to the Electrical Engineering Outreach and Recruitment Fund today.
Thank you for your support and please help us spread the word! Share this project on social media, by email, and tell your friends!
