Mechanical Engineering
Senior Design and Student Fellowships

The field of mechanical engineering is concerned with the design, fabrication, and use of machines - everything from small devices to spacecraft. Mechanical engineers solve modern and emerging problems by applying math, science, and physics. They hold a broad knowledge across the sciences and engineering and go on to specialize throughout their careers.

Start with the fundamentals in science, physics, and math and culminate in a year-long capstone senior design project where you develop and showcase your capabilities. The mechanical engineering degree includes courses in advanced thermodynamics, vibrations, nanotechnology, welding, product development, impact dynamics, aerospace, machine design, HVAC, and control systems. Prepare for future leadership roles by learning the fundamentals of engineering economics and project management, too. Develop specialties by choosing one of four focus areas.

We believe in providing hands on experiences for our students and in this spirit we are raising funds for Mechanical Engineering Department for Fund Senior Design and Student Fellowships.

Senior Design provides students with a simulated real world experience with deadlines and deliverables for engineering designs. More than just a class or assignment, Senior Design projects are product/need focused through student clubs and through private industry. Students will apply for the projects similar to a job and will be chosen by the project advisor/mentor. Industry sponsors have the opportunity during the project to meet and work with possible future employees and students will obtain a view into possible industry careers.

Additional educational and work experience opportunities will be available for Mechanical Engineering undergraduate and graduate students through Fellowships. Student awardees will be chosen by the departmental faculty based on a competitive basis and will provide recognition for selected students and help ease the burden of educational expenses.

During DayOne, thanks to Jack and Leah McCarthy, each gift to the Mechanical Engineering Department Fund for Senior Design and Fellowships will be matched 1:1 up to $1,000.

Fundraising is critical to supporting our Mechanical Engineering students and the areas of Senior Design and Student Fellowships
