As Montana Tech celebrates 125 years of excellence in education, innovation, and impact, we reflect on how far we’ve come—and look ahead to the opportunities before us. The Business Department is proud to be part of this legacy, preparing students to become leaders who not only solve problems, but also create change in an ever-evolving world of business.
A Unique Program with a Bold Mission
The undergraduate Business program at Montana Technological University is not just another business program. It’s a distinct blend of traditional business coursework and cutting-edge information technology, taught by outstanding faculty in small, engaging class settings. At Montana Tech, students don’t just study business, they learn to inspire change, lead with vision, and make a difference.
Our mission is more than words on paper. It’s a call to action: to prepare tomorrow’s business leaders to tackle challenges in a dynamic global marketplace.
Innovation Through SAP and Analytics
Montana Tech is proud to be the only university in Montana officially designated a SAP University Alliance member. SAP is the world’s leading Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, used by 87% of Fortune Global 2000 companies.
Our students learn to harness modern business analytics and visualization tools such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Tableau, SAP® Analytics Cloud, Orange, and Minitab. With these skills, they are equipped to make data-driven decisions that transfer directly to careers in accounting, management, and beyond.
Our SAP Next-Gen Lab and student collaboration center is one of fewer than 20 in the nation. This innovative space allows students to apply classroom learning to real-world scenarios with data from industry partners and the Butte business community.
Supporting Students Beyond the Classroom
Experiential learning is at the heart of what we do. A gift to the Business Department Fund helps us provide students with opportunities that extend far beyond textbooks—whether internships, collaborations, or projects that connect them directly with industry. These experiences ensure our graduates enter the workforce ready to succeed.
We are also excited to honor Rita Spear, who retired in Spring 2024 after years of dedicated service to Montana Tech students. To celebrate her legacy, the Spear Business Excellence Endowed Scholarship will continue her lifelong commitment to supporting students.
