DayOne 2026

Montana Tech Environmental Engineering students learn to protect the resources communities depend on. Through a rigorous combination of science, engineering, laboratory work, and field experience, they prepare to address challenges involving water, air quality, waste, pollution prevention, land reclamation, and environmental health.

Butte provides a remarkable setting for this education. As the home of one of the nation’s largest environmental restoration efforts, the community serves as a living laboratory where students can see how environmental engineering creates meaningful and lasting change.

Inspiring the Next Generation

This summer, the department welcomed 23 high school students from six states to its inaugural Summer Environmental Engineering Camp. During the six day residential experience, campers explored environmental engineering through field visits, research equipment, and a design challenge focused on air and water treatment.

The successful camp introduced students to environmental engineering while giving them an authentic experience of life and learning at Montana Tech. The department plans to offer the camp again next summer, and DayOne gifts to the Environmental Engineering Departmental Fund will help make that possible.

The fund also provides flexible support for students, faculty development, field trips, conferences, and equipment. 

DayOne donors may also support the 50th Anniversary Environmental Engineering Alumni Endowed Scholarship, which assists current Environmental Engineering students.

Thanks to the generosity of alumni Nick ’92 and Kari ’94 Olds, all gifts to the Environmental Engineering Departmental Fund will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $1,000.
