The Writing Program at Montana Tech
Every Montana Tech student needs to write well. Engineers explain designs. Scientists share findings. Nurses document care. Business professionals make recommendations. In every field, good ideas have greater impact when they are communicated clearly.
That is why the Writing Program matters. With a few exceptions, Montana Tech writing faculty teach every student at Montana Tech and Highlands College. This broad reach gives faculty a rare understanding of our students and allows them to shape courses and materials around the work students will be asked to do in their majors and careers.
Students learn to think critically, conduct research, understand their audience, organize complex information, and create documents that are clear, concise, useful, and responsible. These skills help students succeed in college and prepare them to communicate with confidence in the workplace.

What Your Gift Supports
DayOne gifts will support projects that directly improve the student experience.
The Writing Program has already created three open textbooks for beginning, intermediate, and advanced writing courses. These free resources reduce costs for students while allowing faculty to provide relevant materials for technical, business, scientific, and academic communication. Donor support will help faculty maintain these textbooks and develop additional open resources.
Gifts will also support the SHARP Summer Bridge Program, which helps students strengthen their skills and prepare for college, along with other Writing Program initiatives that promote student success, welfare, and engagement.
Because the Writing Program serves nearly every student, support for this project reaches across majors, colleges, and career paths.
